Once a week, we meet for half an hour to serve the Aggie family through implementing an act of kindness. Some acts are as simple as holding the doors open for thirty minutes at the busiest academic buildings on campus such as Heldenfels, Blocker, Wehner, or Evans Library. Each week brings an opportunity to serve our campus in a different way. If you see us around campus doing any of the following, come say Howdy!
- Handing out pennies for Aggies to put on Sully - Attaching change to vending machines - Holding open doors - Leaving words of encouragement in libraries, study areas, and bathrooms - Giving out high fives, hugs, and compliments - Handing out flowers, candy, snacks, bubble wrap, or scantrons - Drawing chalk art on campus - Handing out icy pops when the Texas heat is upon us
Group Shifts
Group shifts give us an opportunity to serve the Aggie family as an entire organization, allowing all of our members to come together in one giant version of our weekly shifts. They typically last hours at a time instead of the weekly shifts' thirty minutes. Group shifts occur on holidays when we want to do something special for our fellow Aggies, or during times that are especially stressful on campus like finals week or midterm time. Each semester we look forward to the following group shift traditions:
- Wildcat for Water: During the beginning hot months of the fall semester, if you do your wildcat loudly and proudly, we give you water and other cold treats! Find us between the Trigon and the MSC! - Mints for Midnight Yell: On the night of Midnight Yell, we hand out mints to Aggies planning (or hoping) to mug down. Look for us outside of Kyle Field! - Halloween: During Halloween week, we hand out candy and baked goods in costume! Find us at Rudder Plaza! - Finals Week: During finals week, we hand out hot chocolate, study snacks, and free scantrons! Find us outside of Evans Library! - Valentine's Day: During Valentine week, we hand out pink lemonade, flowers, candy, and valentines! Find us at Rudder Plaza!
Other Ways We Serve
In further support of our Aggie family, Ags of OAK always enjoys reaching out to fellow organizations and their pursuits. We can frequently be found volunteering with and advocating for the causes of other organizations such as 12th Man Can, the BCS Marathon, GLOW 5K, Autism Speaks U, The Big Event, Aggie Replant, and more! Find us supporting Aggie traditions as we attend Bonfire Remembrance Ceremonies, Silver Taps, and Aggie Muster.
Socials
As each year of Ags of OAK has passed, events that originally began as spontaneous hang-outs have become semester traditions! - Paint War at Spence Park - Breakfast for Dinner Potluck - Game Night - Fuego Dinner for each semester's most involved members
